Timely Tip: Cold fronts rule during the colder months of the year, leaving many anglers frustrated at the lack of consistent fishing. Bass are slowing down in their cooler environments, conserving energy they've stored up during the fall feeding frenzy. This is also the perfect time of year to catch really big bass. Many of our Southern lakes produce the majority of their record bass from November through February, so it can be worthwhile spending a bit of time on the water.
A good tip this time of year is to fish big, bulky baits as slowly as possible. When you think you're fishing slow enough, slow down some more! Timely Tip: It's October, the days are becoming cooler and the bass are chasing shad, fattening themselves up for the cold winter months to come. This is the time of year when cold fronts can actually turn bass on by stimulating voracious feeding activity. Look for creeks that have water flowing into them, and stay on the trolling motor until you find shad. We like at least a little wind ripple to break up the flash of the blades.
